WINEMAKER'S NOTES
The Buradòn Las Plegarias 2021 is crafted from old Garnacha vines planted in the 1970s on clay and limestone soils in Rioja Alta. Hand-harvested in early October, 80% of the grapes are fermented whole bunch, with the remaining 20% de-stemmed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in large barrels, followed by a 40-day maceration. After natural malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 10 months in barrel. Organic and biodynamic practices guide the farming process.
STORY
Carlos Sánchez began his winemaking journey in the Sierra de Gredos and later expanded to Rioja Alta, focusing on the regions of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. He cultivates old parcels of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Viura on calcareous, sandstone, and clay soils using biodynamic practices. In the winery, he embraces spontaneous fermentations, often using whole bunches. Carlos follows a Burgundian approach, vinifying each parcel separately to showcase the unique terroir. His wines are vibrant, fragrant, and offer exceptional ageing potential, standing apart from the traditional Rioja styles.
