WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The ‘Saint-Émilion Grand Cru’ vintage is a testament to meticulous winemaking, leveraging biodynamic practices and 100-year-old Cabernet Franc vines to craft a wine of exceptional depth and complexity. Produced with very low yields of 35hl/ha and aged thoughtfully in a combination of new oak, one-year-old barrels, and cuves. Its old-vine heritage imparts a profound structure to the wine, making it both enjoyable now and suitable for aging through 2037 and beyond.

STORY

Château La Grave Figeac, a 6.5-hectare St-Emilion Grand Cru estate managed by Laurent Clauzel, stands out in its appellation with its prime location adjacent to illustrious neighbors like Cheval Blanc. Embracing its siliceous-clay gravelly soils rich in iron oxide, the estate specializes in Cabernet Franc, adding a unique mineral and truffle character to its wines. Since taking over in 1996, Laurent has transitioned the vineyard to organic and biodynamic practices, earning certifications in 2012 and 2021, respectively, while his innovative approach includes minimal sulfur use and aging some wines entirely in cement, showcasing a commitment to both tradition and modernity in winemaking.
