WINEMAKER'S NOTES

This wine is crafted through manual harvesting, fermentation with indigenous yeast without temperature control, and a 7-day skin maceration. It is matured on fine lees in 80-year-old oak barrels for 10 months with no added sulfur. Facing east, the Steinert vineyard, known for its steep slopes and calcareous soil, provides a unique terroir that enhances the wine’s character.

STORY

Jean-Pierre Frick, a leading figure in Alsace's biodynamic wine scene, and his family manage a 12-hectare estate renowned for its minimal intervention wines, including distinguished Rieslings and Pinot Gris. Pioneers in natural winemaking, the Fricks use innovative techniques like bottle caps for sealing to reduce wine spoilage, reflecting their dedication to purity and terroir expression. With Demeter certification since 1981 and a commitment to hand harvesting and minimal sulphur addition, their work has set a benchmark for natural wines globally, marrying tradition with ecological stewardship.
