WINEMAKER'S NOTES
‘Clos Romans’ by Thierry Germain is produced biodynamically from low-yield vines in a historic walled vineyard dating back to the 11th century. The grapes are grown in tufa (limestone) soils and are hand-harvested. The wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation in 400-liter and 600-liter wooden barrels and is aged on its lees for nine months in underground cellars at low temperatures to preserve the fruit. It is unfiltered, unfined, and contains low levels of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Vinification is done in small batches to ensure quality and authenticity. This is a limited cuvée.
STORY
Domaine des Roches Neuves, under Thierry Germain's stewardship since 1991, stands out in Saumur Champigny for its serious, biodynamically produced wines that reflect a Burgundian approach to winemaking. Germain, a descendant of Bordeaux winemakers, chose this Loire Valley estate for its optimal grape varietal, climate, and terroir synergy. Embracing biodynamics since 2004, the vineyard spans 28 hectares across 61 plots, cultivating Cabernet Franc and Chenin on diverse soils enriched by the tuffeau limestone.
