WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Mark Angeli of La Ferme de la Sansonnière hand-harvests and destems Grolleau grapes for “Gélinettes,” which undergo a three-week maceration followed by aging in 400-litre oak barrels. This meticulous process highlights the potential of Grolleau, traditionally used for rosé, to produce complex and elegant red wines.
STORY
Located in Thouarcé, Anjou in the Loire Valley, La Ferme de la Sansonnière is managed by Mark Angeli and his son Martial, who are dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming. The vineyards, nestled between forests and fields, produce Chenin Blanc and Grolleau varieties with minimal sulphur, using amphorae and wooden barrels for vinification. Mark, originally a stonemason, began winemaking in the late 1980s, focusing on preserving the natural essence of the grapes and promoting biodiversity.
