WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Blaufränkisch, hailing from the sandy loam soils of Pamhagen in Burgenland, Austria, is a testament to biodynamic viticulture. Harvested in late September, this wine encapsulates the essence of its cooler vineyard origins. Its vinification process involves spontaneous fermentation on the skins in open stainless-steel tanks, followed by a gentle press and an 8-month maturation period, partly in large used oak barrels and stainless steel. This meticulous approach results in a wine that is not only Demeter Austria Bio Garantie certified but also a perfect blend of rustic charm and refined drinkability.

STORY

Meinklang, situated in Austria's Burgenland region and run by the Michlits family, exemplifies biodynamic agriculture across a 2,000-hectare estate. This multifaceted farm blends vineyard cultivation, organic cattle farming, and grain production. Known for its Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch grapes nurtured on mineral-rich volcanic soils, Meinklang practices holistic winemaking with indigenous yeasts. Their commitment to biodynamics extends to crafting ancient grain beer and maintaining a vibrant, biodiverse ecosystem, embodying a deep respect for nature and terroir.
