WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The Chianti Classico is meticulously crafted from handpicked grapes of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino varieties, fermented together to ensure a harmonious blend. Aged for 18 months in a mix of medium-sized oak casks and cement tanks, this process endows the wine with its distinctive softness and equilibrium. Reflecting Montesecondo's commitment to biodynamic practices, this Chianti Classico is a pure expression of the terroir, showcasing the complexity and elegance of its older vines, grown on the diverse soils of clay, limestone, galestro, and sand.

STORY

Silvio Messana, after leaving New York City, revitalized the Montesecondo estate in Tuscany, transitioning to organic winemaking by 2004. His innovative approach, focusing on minimal intervention and the use of old barrels, concrete tanks, and clay amphorae, often challenges Chianti Classico norms, resulting in wines that are true expressions of their terroir but labeled predominantly as IGT Toscana due to their unconventional profiles. Montesecondo, under Messana’s stewardship, embodies a philosophy where the vineyard acts as a living entity, striving for harmony with nature to let each wine genuinely reflect its origin.
